Best Kamado Grill Under €1,000: What You Actually Get

What EUR 1,000 buys in a ceramic kamado: grate size, what is included, and what to avoid. An honest guide to the sub-EUR 1,000 bracket.

EUR 1,000 is the point where ceramic grilling stops being an enthusiast purchase, so it is worth being precise about what the money buys — and what it does not.

What EUR 1,000 should get you

A full-size ceramic body, not a compact one. A grate of at least 46 cm, because below that you are cooking in batches for more than three people. A fibreglass gasket that actually seals, a two-zone setup, and a warranty on the ceramic that is measured in years rather than months.

What it does not usually include is the accessories. Cast iron grates, a glazed pizza stone and an ash solution are what turn a ceramic grill into a smoker and a pizza oven, and in this bracket they are normally sold separately.

What to be careful about

The temptation under EUR 1,000 is to buy on diameter alone. The number that matters more is wall thickness, because that is what stores the heat — a thin-walled grill with a big grate will lose temperature every time the dome opens and burn through charcoal holding a low cook.

The second thing is the gasket. A kamado controls temperature by restricting air; if the dome does not seal, the vents stop being a control and the grill runs hot no matter what you do. Look for a fibreglass gasket and check what replacing it costs.

Third, read the warranty on the ceramic specifically, not the grill as a whole. The ceramic is the part that is expensive to replace and the part a manufacturer should be willing to stand behind.

What is available under EUR 1,000

From the established brands, this bracket generally means a smaller body — their full-size models sit above it, and because pricing runs through dealers you will rarely see the figure before you enquire.

From Evolve the bracket covers three configurations. The Beauty Solo at EUR 749 and The Beast Solo at EUR 799 are the grill on its own, with the full 51 cm grate and around 2,040 cm² of cooking surface. At EUR 949 and EUR 999 the same grills come with the premium cart and side tables in bamboo or HDPE. And at EUR 999 the Easy Clean SET adds the ash handling.

The distinction worth understanding is that the grill itself does not change between these. The ceramic, the grate, the ventilation and the warranty are identical — what the extra money buys is somewhere to put it and something to clean it with.

The practical answer

If your budget is EUR 1,000 and you want maximum grill, buy the solo model and add accessories as you find you need them. If you already know you want the cart, buy the configuration that includes it, because bundled it costs less than added later.

If you can stretch past EUR 1,000, the Chef Combo at EUR 1,199 is where the cooking accessories arrive — and it is cheaper than reaching the same specification piece by piece. Compare the configurations here.

Frequently asked questions

Can you get a good ceramic kamado for under EUR 1,000?

Yes. Under EUR 1,000 you can have a full-size ceramic kamado with a 51 cm grate, and with the cart and side tables included at the upper end of the bracket. What you generally cannot get at this price from the established brands is the same size, because their pricing runs through dealers.

What should I avoid in this price range?

Thin ceramic and poor sealing. The whole point of a kamado is that the wall stores heat and the gasket keeps it in; a cheap grill that leaks needs constant refuelling and cannot hold a low temperature. Check the wall, the gasket and the warranty on the ceramic before the price.

Is it better to buy the grill alone or a set?

Under EUR 1,000 you can have either: the solo kamado from EUR 749, or the cart-and-tables configuration from EUR 949. If you know you want the cart, buying it as part of the configuration costs less than adding it later.

What is missing at this price?

Usually the cooking accessories. Cast iron grates, a glazed pizza stone and a tool set are what turn a kamado into the three appliances people buy it for, and at the sub-EUR 1,000 level they are typically extra.
